Ubisoft and Midway jointly announced today that Vin Diesel-starring car thriller Wheelman has reached gold status, further confirming said title is on-track for a March 24 launch date in North America. A European release will follow on March 27.

In Wheelman, players take on the role of an undercover Vin Diesel as he infiltrates the crime underworld of Barcelona in hopes of unmasking a covert heist.

CHICAGO, IL and PARIS, FRANCE - March 12, 2009 - Today, Midway and Ubisoft announced that Wheelman has gone gold for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and PC. Wheelman is scheduled for a March 24, 2009, ship date in North America and a March 27, 2009 street date in Europe for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. Wheelman is rated 16+ by PEGI.

Combining spectacular Hollywood-style stunts with a gripping storyline, Wheelman provides an adrenaline-fueled, cinematic thrill ride. Vin Diesel stars as an undercover agent and highly skilled driver who must infiltrate the Barcelona underworld to gather intelligence surrounding a covert heist. Posing as a driver-for-hire, he ends up caught in a crossfire of corruption and chaos while trying to stay one step ahead of local law enforcement and rival gangs.

    I had absoluty no intrest in this game until I saw it in action, and it actually looks good. It's no secret that Vin-Diesel is a gamer and it is probably why this game looks good (but because it stars Vin-Diesel a lot of people [like me before I saw it] will avoid it).

    It's basically like GTA/Saints Row, but instead of using cars to get to your desired location, the cars are the main action. There's car fighting, the ability to hijack a car in midair (like pursuit force), and shoot outs. That is why the developers like to compare it to Burnout rather than GTA, although its an open world sandbox game.

    So be sure to at least check out some videos if you like sandbox games
