BrokHEN Fixed (Unofficial) – Homebrew for All!
by Justin B on May.06, 2009 at 10:44 am, under Gaming, PSP Homebrew, PlayStation Portable | Thread ID: 3004
Disclaimer: This is an unofficial fix, please use it at your own risk
A member of our forums, maibrithahn, seems to have fixed the issue with Davee’s HEN release yesterday. You can now execute homebrew if you are on firmware 5.03! Just download the updated package that is attached to this post. While we suggest waiting until Davee releases an official fix we thought the impatient amongst us might want to try it out. Instructions are after the break.
Download: [ChickHEN Fixed]
How do i get the HEN to run on my PSP?
1. First off use the supplied TIFF image and place it in the PSP>PHOTO Directory.
2. Copy h.bin over to the MS ROOT and safely remove device.
2. Scroll over to the PHOTO icon on the XMB and click the ChickHEN folder and wait. (This will not work the first time, you may have to just use a method of loading that works for you but this is what we have found most efficient)
3. If all goes well the screen should blank out and flash green showing that the HEN is loaded and all is well.
4. Wait for your PSP to reboot and check your PSP's system software. It should now display: "5.03 ChickHEN".
5. Scroll on over to GAME and enjoy some Homebrew!

Gotta try it ASAP, awesome!

this is not a fix, it's a workaround... Many bootable HB in Davee's Original HEN (Like D-Gen and original gpSP aren't working), I say wait for the real thing to come along.

I'm having the same issues with lots of homebrew, I really hope davee himself updates us.
edit: i can't view pictures on HEN either
May 6th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
Since this is a workaround and not a true fix it's normal half the HB don't boot up... the guy most likely had barely any idea what he was doing... I say this was a hexedit work...
Let's just hope Davee doesn't feel as insulted as Exophase did when gpSP kai came out... If that happens we're in hot water

what people want to know is, what do we do with the hen-fixed file?. do we rename it to h.bin? or what?
May 6th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
hex-edited h.bin... just put it on the root of your memory stick
May 6th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
pb.Malloc.us pastebin
Not great results so far, but some homebrew is working.

Not great results so far, but some homebrew is working.
I believe those are inaccurate results, the homebrew you have listed as not working has been reported to work on other PSPs

tried it on 5.02. after flashing hen, stays on red screen. i will have to try to update to 5.03. hope everything turns out well. from Philippines

It still doesn't work for me. :/
I got a PSP 3000. I put the h.bin in I: and the chickHEN folder in PSP/PHOTO but what I got is a freeze.
May 6th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
i've upgraded to 5.03. its working now except for homebrew like nesterj

this is an unofficial release. i did not even load HEN on my 3K. all this did was p*ss Davee off. i wish people would wait 4 Davee's official updates instead of pretending that they know how 2 re-code the h.bin file.

edit- "it did not load HEN on my 3K"
May 6th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
i think this unofficcial fix should be taken down from the site as it is a dissrespect to the developer of the hen loader as a source code was not released. the person who modified it should be banned from the site for stealing davee/team typhoons work. aswell because the socalled fix desnt really fix anything but create more issues with stability and initial loading of the hen loader. i want it gone from the site and any further modification of davees/team typhoons work that is not done by them untill a source code is released by them should not make the front page of this site.
May 6th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
He did not steal anyone's work, he released it as a fix and not his own work. We thought it would be worthy to write about it and inform our users (who have been anxiously awaiting running homebrew) of a potential fix that they an try out until the official fix comes through.
May 6th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
like SpEkTrUm said it created more instabilities. this unofficial HEN hasent loaded HEN at all on my 3K. it should b left 2 the creator and his team 2 fix officially.
May 6th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
i feel other so called "fixes" should be passed along to the developer rather then put on display. that way the developer has the opportunity to incorperate the fix or find a better way to fix it. i still feel that the unofficail fix should be removed from the front page in respect to the original developer.
May 6th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
agreed.....
May 6th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Im having some trouble here... with the official HEN the homebrew loads, but with this fix my PSP always freezes up. Have I done anything wrong? I renamed the file to h.bin and replaced the official h.bin.
Help?

edit 2- sorry but i messed around with this unofficial HEN and got it playin nesterJ gpSP and picodrive. ultimate psp tube loads but i get a internal error. the psp filer app works. GeMP 3.3 dont work nor does SNES9X
May 6th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
This works great, other then the network error and the rare freezing, but this will do great until the official versions released. :D
