Tune up your banjos and start remembering your favorite scenes from Deliverance because the next round of Fallout 3 DLC is here. Point Lookout is the fourth episode to be released by Bethesda for the Fallout 3 universe and it brings you to a swampy coastal area of Maryland in what developers are calling, "the most mysterious and open-ended Fallout 3 DLC adventure yet." Not convinced it's a purchase yet? Here's the full details from the horses mouth:
Story:
Buy a ticket and hop onboard the Duchess Gambit, as Tobar the Ferryman takes you to the strange seaside town of Point Lookout. What secrets does the dilapidated boardwalk hold? Who lives in the sprawling mansion? Why is the Punga Fruit so important? And what horrors lie in the depths of the murky swamp?
Point Lookout is the most open-ended DLC yet, and allows you to explore a huge, swampy wasteland any way you’d like. A completely new quest line allows you uncover the town’s hidden secrets and wield powerful new weapons like the Double-Barrel Shotgun against the swamp’s dangerous, and deformed, denizens.
Key Features:* Discover and explore an entire new area – the beachfront town of Point Lookout, with its decrepit boardwalk and surrounding swamplands loaded with adventure.
* Explore the chilling mystery that pervades this once sleepy town, with a new quest line and open-ended gameplay.
* Encounter unique new swamp denizens and weaponry that will test even the toughest characters.
* Exclusive new perks and achievements!
Point Lookout is available for download from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 MS Points and the equivalent in real money for PC gamers is $10. The next round of DLC for Fallout 3 is Mothership: Zeta due out late next month in which you are abducted by aliens and fight your way through their mothership. Follow the break for some new screen shots.

I keep reading about all the DLCs coming out for Fallout 3, and I really want to buy them; the only thing thats stopping me is the fact that the 'Game of the Year' edition will be coming out sometime soon, supposedly having all 5 DLCs included in the game, at which point it would be cheaper for me to just purchase that and return my original copy of the game. Everytime I read things like this though, I just can't shake the feeling that it isn't worth the wait, for the £10 or so that I'll save.

I'm in the same boat. The DLCs sound nice but I haven't gotten any yet.
When the game first came out, I bought a copy thinking that the new design was going to be very disappointing. I've been a huge fallout fan since Fallout. After being really impressed by Fallout 3 I quickly sold my copy to a friend and bought the lunchbox set. (I should start bringing my lunch to work in it =D ) So, now that you mention the GOTY edition is coming out, I'm like, "meh." since I'm not going to sell my lunchbox to get yet another copy of the game. Hopefully they'll package all the DLCs into a cheaper download or something, because I've already invested $70 into the game... $120 just seems a bit excessive.
btw, while I was at the store I stumbled across a package that's Fallout + Fallout 2 + Tactics for $20. Not surprising, considering Fallout 3's popularity thus far. I highly encourage anyone who's never played the originals (and who likes top down rpgs that take time to play) to get it and have at it. It's a great experience =)

I'm pretty sure you can pirate the dlc, even without a modded Xbox. All you have to do is connect you're 360 hdd to you're computer.

I've got the computer version, so it'd prolly be even easier than that. But I'm not really interested in pie ratting anything for that particular game. They did too good of a job on it.

Everytime I hear DLC for Fallout3 I roll my eyes in disgust. Is that just me?
June 24th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I think so. Why?
June 24th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Probably. The DLCs are really well done, it's not like they used all vanilla assets.

Most definitely...

Are you a ps3 Fallout 3 owner?
June 25th, 2009 at 4:14 am
No. I don't own a PS3. But I do own Fallout3 for the Xbox360.
I think I feel that way because the game itself was a bit of a let down for me. I felt the story was too short and obvious. It was easy to know what was going to happen. Sure there were side quests, but I only found one of them to be enjoyable. Only one. It got pretty boring quickly too...
But you guys have given me new hope. If I ever decide to play Fallout3 again, I'll take into consideration on what you guys said and think about downloading some content.

I dont know about you but the game for me was no means short I spend a good 80 hours playing that game... Even more if you count all the times I forgot to save or died or just fucked around and killed everyone in the town...But then again it was my first fallout game.

Well, I love the main game, so I don't know how much an endorsement of the DLC should mean to you.
With that said, I've liked the DLC. About to crack open Point Lookout in a minute.

I've got around 280 hours on it. Of course, that's with mods, but no mod besides The Cube compares with Bethesda's quests. The game really does last a long time.
