Firmware 3.1 Brings Facebook Integration to PS3

Sony isn’t one to sit idle in midst of Microsoft’s social networking efforts, as the company has went ahead and announced that firmware 3.1 for PS3 will include Facebook integration. By linking up a PSN profile to a Facebook account, PS3 owners will able to automatically update their news feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. You’ll never miss a beat. The initiative will also give developers the ability to publish game information to news feeds through Facebook’s API.

While Facebook integration is the main highlight of this update, Sony is squeezing in other noteworthy changes as well, including a revamped photo browser and the ability to change the font color of your PSN ID.     Something I've actually been waiting for. Yay. I've been spending way more time on my PS3 lately.

    I dun use Fazebook :-/ So this update is SO useless to me.... I hope they don't force it, it isn't worth the bytes downloading for me....

    Should be optional, I just wish they made the damn updates smaller. Judghing by the size, they must simply reflash the firmware.

    Yes, it's always the complete FW in the updates, just like on the PSP.
    Makes sense, as you never can be sure on what (older) FW the update is going to be executed, so it pretty much can't be done differently - except having a different update for every FW version, but that's not practical xD

    There was a FW update on the Borderlands disc but I think that was 3.01

    I am officially insulted.

    They bring TV channels in this update for almost all Europe besides Portugal?! Even freaking Slovakia and Bulgaria get some!!!
