PlayStation Store Update Thursday: Battlefield 1943
by eXophase Mirror on Jul.09, 2009 at 7:47 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable

With the arrival of EA’s Battlefield 1943, there are 1943 reasons to log-on to the PlayStation Store today. OK, not really, but this week’s round of offerings are nothing to scoff at. For those looking for a more lighthearted multiplayer experience, trivia title Buzz! Junior: RoboJam is up for grabs. And if you aren’t completely sold on it, a playable demo for Battlefield 1943 is available as well, in addition to one for Ghostbusters.
Joining those two downloadable games are PSOne classics Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol and XS Junior League Soccer. Add-on content is in plentiful supply this week as well, with a three-track Adrenaline expansion pack for MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Dynasty Warriors 6 armor sets leading the list of notables.
Over on the PSP side of things, Samurai Warriors: State of War and Ultimate Board Game Collection are now available as downloadable UMD legacy titles. Full list after the break.

Video Game Release Dates: Week of July 6th
by Abe Froeman on Jul.06, 2009 at 9:40 am, under Gaming, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360
"Thin" is probably the best word to describe this week's game releases, as we have officially entered the Summer Slump for new titles. The one shining gem this week will most likely be the release of Battlefield 1943 via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network. In a new publicity stunt, the game will launch with three maps available and a fourth map will be unlocked once their respective consoles reach 43 million kills. It'll be interesting to see which service hits that number first.
For the full list of this week's releases by region, follow the break:

Embark on a Demolition Spree in Battlefield 1943 This June
by eXophase Mirror on Apr.23, 2009 at 11:31 am, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

EA-owned development studio DICE today confirmed that its Frostbyte-powered online multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943 will hit PSN and Xbox Live Arcade in June. A PC release will follow in September.
Players take responsibility of commanding either the US Marines or Imperial Japanese Navy and wage war in a conflict set across three tropic locales. This time around all the war-ravaged anarchy is powered by DICE’s in-house Frostbyte engine, which allows for highly destructible environments.
“Using the same Frostbite engine that we developed for Battlefield: Bad Company, we are able to take players back to WWII and return to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, but with a new twist – destruction,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943.
Look for Battlefield 1943 to hit your favorite digital distribution store front for $15 later this June. With all the content being packed into this digital release and not to mention the sheer replay value offered by multiplayer, there is definitely enough value here to justify the price tag.

Battlefield 1943, Bad Company 2 Announced
by eXophase Mirror on Feb.05, 2009 at 11:54 am, under Gaming, PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Electronics Arts today confirmed that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943 are in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Making a return back to the war-ravaged era of WWII, the Frontbite-powered Battlefield 1943 is a multiplayer-only affair, offering 24 player battlefronts over three tropical locations, including Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. The title will hit PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this summer. No mention of a retail release was made, presumably indicating that 1943 will be sold exclusively as a digital title, at least on consoles.
EA also noted that Battlefield: 1943 will be playable at this year’s Comic Con event, which kicks off on February 6, in booth #1441.
Bad Company 2, on the other hand, is a full fledged retail title. Due out this winter, players once again assume the role of B company through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. Total destruction is the name of the game, says EA.
