Nintendo Preps Black Friday DSi Bundles With Preloaded Software
by eXophase Mirror on Nov.23, 2009 at 2:41 pm, under Gaming, Nintendo DS

Nintendo is serving up a special deal for Black Friday shoppers eying the DSi. This Friday, participating retailers will be stocking Metallic Blue or White DSi units that up the value with pre-installed DSi software.
The Metallic Blue DSi comes with Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario Express, WarioWare: Snapped: Wario, Mario Calculator, and Mario Clock: Mario Clock. The White DSi bundle is decidedly more academic-focused, packing three Brain Age express titles, Clubhouse Games Express, and Photo Clock.
“These limited-edition bundles come packed with some of the great Nintendo DSiWare games and applications that have made Nintendo DSi such a big hit with shoppers young and old,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The special price and pre-installed titles make the bundles a huge value for the holidays.”
Nintendo calls it a $20 a value that will be available “for a limited time only,” so expect stock to move quickly. It’s a nice gesture and should increase visibility of the DSiWare service to customers that otherwise may not be aware of its offerings. It’d be even sweeter if this wasn’t a limited offer, though.

250GB PS3 Slim Is Real, Box Shot Surfaces
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.16, 2009 at 6:30 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3

Sony’s attempts to buckle down on leaks appear to be futile, as a clear box shot of the 250GB PS3 Slim that showed up on a covert FCC listing has surfaced. Sure enough, this offering includes Uncharted 2 as a pack-in, falling in line with previous rumors that suggested multiple 250GB bundles would hit Europe. There’s a good chance this piece of kit will show up in retail channels next month, priced at $400 to replace the old 80GB bundle that is slowly moving off store shelves.
When a formal announcement will come is anyone’s guess, but with TGS right around the corner, chances are it will be made official soon-ish.

Microsoft Unveils 250GB Modern Warfare 2 Bundle
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.15, 2009 at 11:03 pm, under Gaming, Xbox 360

With the Xbox 360 Elite taking place of the $299 Pro model recently, it was a given that’d we see another hardware bundle to fill in the void left in Microsoft’s tiered product lineup. Sure enough, today the Redmond-based company announced a limited edition 250GB Xbox 360 configuration. Available in bundle form only, it features a standard edition copy of Modern Warfare 2 as a in pack-in, along with a headset and two wireless controllers.
The Xbox 360 unit included in the bundle comes standard in a black finish, brandishing decal lifted straight from the game. Notice the number “2″ emblazoned on the side, along with the faction name of TF-141. It’s a rather tasteful design, not overly done as we’ve seen with limited edition units in the past, so thumbs up on that. As expected, it’ll retail for $399 — $100 more than a standard 360. Taking all the contents into account, it’s quite a decent deal.
Modern Warfare 2 hits Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 on November 10. This bundle will be available day and date with the launch of the game itself. Hit the break for high-res photos of the aforementioned 360 unit.

Rumor: PS3 Slim Bundles Hitting Europe in 250GB Variants
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.10, 2009 at 11:29 am, under Gaming, PlayStation 3

Citing a “trusted retail source,” Eurogamer has it on good authority that Sony will debut a set of PS3 Slim bundles later this October, each packaged with a 250GB hard drive — more than double that of the standard configuration.
Said to be priced at £299.99, the bundles will include your choice of either Uncharted 2, Assassin’s Creed II, or Gran Turismo 5. We won’t see them all at once, obviously, considering the latter of those titles aren’t due for a release until after October.
Consider it rumor for now, but we have little reason to doubt the validity of such a move when an conspicuous FCC listing turned up a 250GB PS3 model last month. The only question is if SCEA will employ a similar marketing strategy, as they’re not as bundle happy as SCEE is.

Sony Unveils Limited Edition Gran Turismo PSP Bundle
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.02, 2009 at 4:12 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

As Sony is positioning Gran Turismo as a landmark title for PSP, they’ve went ahead and made the rather expected decision of announcing a limited edition bundle package.
That’s right, debuting alongside the standalone UMD disc and digital copy of the game on October 1 is a Gran Turismo PSP Entertainment Pack. Contents include a copy of GT, in addition to a Mystic Silver PSP-3000 unit, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, a music voucher good for 10 downloadable songs, and an “exclusive” downloadable voucher for the keys to a white Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. All this for $199.99 — $30 more than a standalone PSP. Not too shabby.
Unfortunately, the PSP unit included contains no special branding, diminishing this bundle’s value as a collector’s item. Still, for the price, it’s hard to argue the value here for prospective PSP owners. As of right now, the bundle is planned for release in North America only.

Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines PSP Entertainment Pack Revealed
by eXophase Mirror on Jul.16, 2009 at 2:13 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable
First announced at Destination PlayStation in February, Sony and Ubisoft have lifted the veiled on the Assassin’s Creed PSP hardware bundle. Due out in November, it packs a plain matte white PSP-3000 unit, the game itself, a yet-untitled UMD movie disc, and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo.
Unfortunately, the PSP system contained in this bundle seemingly contains no special branding to speak of, making it less attractive to collector types. Nonetheless, priced at $199.99, this bundle represents a great value over standalone PSP offerings, especially for first-time adopters of the platform.

PS3 Value Bundle With Killzone 2, MGS 4 as Pack-Ins Hitting Best Buy
by eXophase Mirror on Jul.04, 2009 at 1:43 am, under Gaming, PlayStation 3

As rumors have suggested, it appears Sony is itching to deplete its stock of 80GB PS3 models to make way for a slimmed down version of the original hardware. According to a Kotaku report, citing numerous retail store employees, Best Buy will begin offering a 80GB PS3 bundle containing Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 as pack-ins next Sunday.
While most bundles come with a premium price tag to justify their additions, this particular one will cost $399.99, the same price as a standalone 80GB unit. Seeing as Killzone 2 is still sold at full price, that’s a savings of around $90. If you’ve been in the market for a PS3, now might be the time to jump on one. Then again, if rumors pan out, the PS3 Slim may be right around the corner as well, which makes waiting it out a couple more months another option for prospective purchasers. It’s your choice.

BioShock, Oblivion Getting Bundle Treatment at Retail This July
by eXophase Mirror on Jun.17, 2009 at 3:32 pm, under Gaming, PC, Xbox 360

Bethesda has teamed up with 2K Games to offer both BioShock and Oblivion in bundle form on Xbox 360 and PC. We’ll admit: the combination is odd and leaves us perplexed, not to mention that both these titles came out years ago. Despite this, it offers up a good value to the few that have yet to play these hits.
Set to hit retail shelves on July 7, the bundle will set you back $30 for PC, while the Xbox 360 variant is slightly more expensive at $40. Combined, both titles were recipients of over 80 Game of the Year awards from publications across the globe. We’d be hard pressed to find someone that has yet to play either, but again, if you happen to fit into that group it’s a decent deal, one that is worth jumping on.
European Monster Hunter PSP Bundle Detailed
by eXophase Mirror on Jun.09, 2009 at 12:47 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

Capcom today detailed its plans to release a Monster Hunter themed PSP-3000 bundle in Europe. Due out June 26, it is comprised of a plain Jane Mystic Silver PSP unit, screen wipe, and a branded carrying-pouch and skin. Oh, the actual game is included as well.
Perhaps this bundle will garner interest among the more casual crowd, but for most of us, wouldn’t you rather wait it out for a PSPgo?
Rumor: inFamous, Ratchet & Clank Receiving Bundle Treatment in Europe
by eXophase Mirror on May.12, 2009 at 11:45 am, under Gaming, PlayStation 3

A Spanish site has uncovered product box shots for what appears to be two new PS3 hardware bundles, offering up inFamous and Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty as pack-ins.
Both of the 80GB variant, these bundles are expected to hit European shelves for €399 later this year. Included in the Quest for Booty pack is an additional Dual Shock 3 controller to compensate for the game’s budget price. While an official announcement has yet to be made, SCEE is infatuated with hardware bundles and the shots depicted here certainly look legit, so we wouldn’t be surprised at all if this “rumor” pans out.
