Namco Bandai - Ubisoft DRM 'A Good Strategy'
by Justin B on May.28, 2010 at 2:22 pm, under Gaming, PC
Olivier Comte, Vice President of Namco Bandai Partners, recently told CVG that Ubisoft’s always-online DRM protection is the best DRM protection out right now. However he clarified with more information saying that it certainly isn’t the best solution but there’s no other alternative today. Namco Bandai is set to release Test Drive Unlimited 2 and The Witcher 2 on PC later this fall where we’ll get to see what DRM they choose.
Splinter Cell: Conviction PC Delay Not Tied to DRM
by Justin B on Apr.02, 2010 at 8:05 pm, under Gaming, PC
In talking with Eurogamer, Ubisoft has explained that the 2 week delay of Splinter Cell: Conviction for the PC is not connected with their new DRM implementations. Recently Ubisoft has been getting a lot attention for their controversial DRM system of constantly requiring an internet connection, and has even been under attack, but they assure us that this system is not the reason for the delay. Instead the delay is being attributed to extra time needed to iron out some last minute bugs and issue fixes.

Command & Conquer 4 to Require Internet Connection to Play
by Justin B on Mar.20, 2010 at 10:30 am, under Gaming, PC
This week EA’s Command and Conquer 4 has hit the shelves with one small caveat; the game will require an internet connection to play, much like Ubisoft’s latest PC titles. However, unlike Ubisoft’s titles you will lose your progress if you do not save the game as soon as you lose your internet connection. The battle continues between consumers and this new form of DRM
Ubisoft DRM Servers Hit by Attack Yesterday…and Today
by Justin B on Mar.08, 2010 at 3:35 pm, under Gaming, PC
According to Ubisoft’s official Twitter account their DRM servers (responsible for protecting their new games from piracy) were attacked yesterday which would not allow users to play either Assassin’s Creed II or Silent Hill 5 on the PC. It seems that the very same attack that prevented users from playing yesterday is happening again today according to a recent tweet by Ubisoft.
Also Ubisoft is reporting that their games are still withstanding crack efforts by the piracy community with no confirmed cases of pirated copies successfully being played. At this rate, however, this new DRM (which will be included with Splinter Cell: Conviction) is proving to be more trouble than it is worth for those that have bought the games.
