Mega Man 10 PSN, XBLA Bound
by eXophase Mirror on Dec.16, 2009 at 2:50 am, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

The latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed the unsurprising revelation that Capcom's retro-fitted Mega Man 10 is indeed a multiplatform title. Decked in 8-bit pixels, it's due out on both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade alongside the already announced WiiWare release. There's not much else to deduce from the scan, other than the fact Mega Man's brother Protoman will once again be making an appearance in this one.
Still no word on a date, but we'll keep you posted.
Monster Hunter Spinoff Hitting PSP
by eXophase Mirror on Oct.25, 2009 at 11:25 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

By way of a Famitsu report, it has been confirmed that Capcom is continuing its Monster Hunter development efforts on PSP, this time in the form of a spinoff rather than a main entry.
The game’s title loosely translates to “Monster Hunter Diary Poka Poka Airu Village.” While details are scant, a brief teaser was shown at the Monster Hunter finals event in Japan, seemingly indicating an art style shift as evidenced by the creature shown on-screen. Although official details from Capcom are still forthcoming, this could very well be an entirely new take on the franchise — more casual friendly perhaps?

Kojima Says Peace Walker Will Make People Want a PSP
by eXophase Mirror on Oct.14, 2009 at 2:06 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

If Hideo Kojima’s expectations pan out for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Sony is going to be very, very pleased. Speaking to Famitsu, he mentions that a certain aspect of the game will make people want to rush out and pick up a PSP, albeit vaguely:
I’m putting everything I want to do on a portable console into this game,” said Kojima. “I haven’t announced this yet, but there’s another feature in here that will surprise people, to the point where they’ll want to go out and buy a PSP right now!
As usual, there’s no shortage of teasing from Kojima. While we have no doubt Peace Walker is destined for system seller status, it sounds like Kojima’s team is aiming to raise the quality bar even further. The wait is on to find out what this “surprise” is.

Famitsu Predicts Final Fantasy XIII Will Move Over 500K PS3 Units in December
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.14, 2009 at 5:52 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3

Launches of main Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy titles always generate a significant amount of buzz over in Japan, and it looks like history is once again poised to repeat itself with FFXIII.
Famitsu parent Entertain is setting its expectations high for this entry in the series, forecasting a major boost in PS3 sales following its December 17 debut, to the tune of over 500,000 units. Of course, the recent price cut will play a deciding role in increasing momentum as well, but Square Enix’s latest RPG opus will be the driving factor during these winter months. The feat would represent an increase of 250 percent in hardware sales over last December. Impressive.
Unlike in North America and Europe, Japanese gamers will have only one platform to get their FFXIII fix, at least for the foreseeable future, considering the title is debuting as a PS3 exclusive. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if these figures are on the modest side.

Capcom Confirms DS Okami Sequel
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.01, 2009 at 2:01 pm, under Gaming, Nintendo DS

Capcom is working on a follow-up to Clover Studios’ (now defunct) hit watercolor-style RPG Okami, entitled Okamiden: Chiisaki Taiyo. Poised for release on Nintendo DS, Capcom is rounding up the talent on this one, with Motohide Eshiro of Ace Attorney fame and Kuniomi Matsushita serving as producer and director on the project, respectively.
Matsushita calls it Okami with a broader appeal. Gameplay-wise, he told Famitsu that players can use the stylus as a brush. The aim is to create a seamless pick up and play type experience.
Look for more details on this portable Okami follow-up to be revealed at TGS, likely alongside a trailer.

Dragon Quest IX Sales Climb to 3.2 Million
by eXophase Mirror on Jul.27, 2009 at 2:46 pm, under Gaming, Nintendo DS

Dragon Quest IX is well on its way to earning the coveted title of the best-selling DS game in Japan. Honestly, who would have expected otherwise? Famitsu parent Enterbrain today reports that unit sales in the region have crossed the 3.2 million mark, a figure that represents sales from July 11 to July 26.
Bet it won’t be long before the 5 million mark is hit. Give it a month or two. On another note, here’s hoping Square Enix recovers from the euphoric shellshock of all this green flowing in and pins down a stateside release date for DQ IX.
Lunar: The Silver Star Remake PSP Bound
by eXophase Mirror on May.13, 2009 at 11:47 am, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

By way of scans from the latest issue of Famitsu, it has been confirmed that Lunar: The Silver Star is receiving the remake treatment on PSP.
At its core, this is by and large the same RPG released on the Sega CD and PSOne back in 1992 and 1996 respectively. Aside from the newly wedded title of Lunar: Harmony of Silver Star, enhancements are being made on the artsy side of things. For one, the graphics have been given a complete overhaul, now fully redrawn with town and dungeon areas presented in a isometric standpoint. Also promised is a remastered musical score along with a revamped user interface for inventory and status screens.
Game Arts, the original Lunar team, is reportedly handling development duties on the title. No word on a Western release yet, but seeing as the series carries quite a following abroad, it would be reasonable to expect another studio to take up localization.

Japanese Wii Sales: 8 Million Served
by eXophase Mirror on Apr.22, 2009 at 11:42 am, under Gaming, Nintendo Wii

Nintendo’s motion-sensing wonder hit another sales milestone this month in Japan, as Famitsu makes it official that the Wii has sold through 8 million units.
The Nintendo Wii made its debut on December 2, 2006 in Japan. While it still remains the top-selling console in the region, sales have tapered off over the past couple months, leading company bigwig Satoru Iwata to label the current market situation as “unhealthy.”
With that said, Nintendo’s plans to revitalize and once again spur Wii interest in Japan are unknown at this point, but it’s clear something is being worked on. The Wii is still selling at a faster pace than any other piece of hardware over there, bar the DS, so it is safe to say they aren’t exactly worried. Perhaps Monster Hunter Tri will shake things up, considering the effect it had on PSP in Japan.

Xbox 360 Breaks 1 Million Sold Barrier in Japan
by Mister Chief on Mar.31, 2009 at 10:47 pm, under Gaming, Xbox 360

It has been a long hard struggle but the Xbox 360 has finally reached the million units sold mark in Japan. According to Japanese magazine publisher Enterbrain who publish long established gaming mag Famitsu, the Xbox 360 has sold 1,001,191 units as of March 29.
Microsoft had high hopes for the Xbox 360when it went on sale in Japan on December 10, 2005. They have secured many exclusive games from several high profile Japanese publishers and developers such as Square Enix and Myst Walker but these titles have meet with little financial success.
When compared to the sales figures of it's competitors the Xbox 360 may seem like a complete and utter failure in the land of the rising sun. But when compared to the original Xbox which only had total lifetime sales of 470,000 in Japan it is a resounding success.
Little by little Microsoft are breaking their way into the Japanese gaming market.
DSi Hits Two Million in Japan
by eXophase Mirror on Mar.24, 2009 at 12:51 pm, under Gaming, Nintendo DS

While those of us in North America and Europe are still waiting patiently to get our hands on the latest iteration of Nintendo’s portable hardware, the DSi, the system has already surpassed another sales milestone overseas.
According to Famitsu sales figures, the DSi has shifted 2,024,431 million units in Japan since its November 1 inception. This milestone comes mere days after a trio of new DSi colors hit the region: Pink, Lime Green, and Metallic Blue.
That’s almost a third of what the original DS sold. Impressive. Question is though, will it eclipse sales of the DS Lite, which is currently sitting pretty at 17,610,348 million units sold. Only time will tell.
