Playstation Store Update: Not Much
by Adiuvo on Jan.14, 2010 at 8:35 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable
Well it's the famed update Thursday for PSN, but sadly there's not much more content added. PS3 users did get a new demo of Uno and a permanent price drop of $15 on Steamboat Chronicles, but PSP owners got a single game, Luxor: The Wrath of Set. Other notable inclusions are Dynogems, a new PSP mini Puzzle Bobble clone, and a Gran Turismo car pack. Given the two week hiatus Sony had over the holiday, there's not much excuse for the PSP to have such a minimal amount of games - especially when they have the download only PSP Go to support.
On the PS3 side of the update, the quality was a bit better. Rock Band songs, as usual, are aplenty and DLC for Magic Orbz was also present. A White Knight Chronicles combat trailer was also uploaded, along with Socom US Navy Seals: Fireteam Bravo 3 dev diary, definitely pleasing both RPG and FPS fans alike.

SCEE Gets Generous, Hands Out Even More Free Games for PSPgo Owners
by eXophase Mirror on Dec.01, 2009 at 2:22 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

Separate from the promotion it ran back during the PSPgo’s launch, SCEE is giving away even more free games to those investing in the platform, making the premium price not as hard to swallow. Product manager Adamn Grant breaks word on the official European PlayStation Blog that any PSPgo owner can now receive a voucher code to download one of three recent games free of charge. These includes hits like Gran Turismo, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge and Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines. In Germany Assassin’s Creed has been substituted for LittleBigPlanet.
To receive your voucher code, simply sign on the PlayStation Store in your local region and download a specially-marked PSPgo Promotion Theme. An email will be sent to the one on record with your PSN account afterwards. Unfortunately, this deal is a Europe only one, meaning those of us North America are out of luck.

Sony Unveils Limited Edition Gran Turismo PSP Bundle
by eXophase Mirror on Sep.02, 2009 at 4:12 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

As Sony is positioning Gran Turismo as a landmark title for PSP, they’ve went ahead and made the rather expected decision of announcing a limited edition bundle package.
That’s right, debuting alongside the standalone UMD disc and digital copy of the game on October 1 is a Gran Turismo PSP Entertainment Pack. Contents include a copy of GT, in addition to a Mystic Silver PSP-3000 unit, a 2GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, a music voucher good for 10 downloadable songs, and an “exclusive” downloadable voucher for the keys to a white Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. All this for $199.99 — $30 more than a standalone PSP. Not too shabby.
Unfortunately, the PSP unit included contains no special branding, diminishing this bundle’s value as a collector’s item. Still, for the price, it’s hard to argue the value here for prospective PSP owners. As of right now, the bundle is planned for release in North America only.

Early PSPgo Adopters in North America Get DLC Capable Rock Band Demo
by eXophase Mirror on Aug.28, 2009 at 12:36 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

While Sony has cooked up an inciting deal for early adopters of the PSPgo in Europe, offering a free copy of Gran Turismo PSP to those who register their system by October 10, the deal is much less appealing in North America. Which is surprising, as it’s usually the other way around.
Sony has teamed up with MTV to give North American PSPgo purchasers, for a limited time only, a downloadable voucher for Rock Band Unplugged Lite. This is essentially a demo of Rock Band Unplugged, but with added support for downloading DLC tracks. It’s obvious as to who was given the better deal here. Like we said, usually it’s Europe that receives the short end of the stick, so we find it hard to complain in this case. But seriously, how hard could it have been to make the GT promotion a universal one? Marketing decisions, sometimes they make no sense.
