In a recent interview Quantic Dreams' lead David Cage has said that the announced "Chronicles" DLC for Heavy Rain will never see the light of day, as the team has been told by Sony to focus on Move support instead. For those that do not know of what the "Chronicles" DLC was about, it was just a set of side-stories that would flesh out the events in the lives of secondary characters prior to the game. Here is what David Cage had to say:

"Our approach was to make no compromise on the quality of the 'Chronicles,' and offer exactly the same quality than the original game," he says. "So the answer is yes. 'Chronicles' as we saw them were ambitious and with high expectations. As explained, they are on hold to allow the team to work on Move and on new projects, and I doubt they will ever be produced."

It is a shame that it happened but it's a good thing they didn't want to compromise the overall quality of the DLC. Still, it remains to be seen if Move support rather than DLC is a good idea.

Playstation Move’s Capabilities Explained

Playstation Move Balls

In a talk with Richard Marks, Sony’s Senior Researcher and man behind the Move, Kotaku was able to uncover a lot of information in regards to the limit and potential of the Playstation’s latest invention, the Playstation  Move. For those concerned about the sensitivity of the Move while in changing lighting conditions, the article says that it held up very well in a variety of conditions and can be re-configured for different lighting conditions.

The Move system is also said to be effective within the 3-10 foot range (sweet spot being 5-10") and the camera has a 75-degree viewing angle. On the disappointing side of things, the Move will only last 10 hours with the sphere at its fullest brightness, much shorter than the DualShock 3 controller. Also, the system only allows for up to 4 controllers total, in which the Move and subcontroller act as individual controllers.

Also, the Playstation Move features a “mystery” port on the bottom of the device alongside the Mini-USB port, which is capable of being used by “licensees” any way they see fit as it can transfer both power and data just like the Wii’s controller. Unlike the Wii however, the Move features a pressure-sensitive trigger much like the current generation gamepads.

LittleBigPlanet was just shown off with a new co-operative gameplay that allows one player to use the Playstation Move controller to help create paths for your teammate to progress to the end of the level. This reminds me a lot of Jet Force Gemini (N64) where your co-op partner utilizes another controller to help you through the levels. At the time it seemed like a simple way to introduce co-op to a game that couldn't utilize two players simultaneously in the story. However with LBP you are already able to do co-operative play with another controller, so the new Move controller seems "wasted" on this game, although we'll have to wait and see.

SonyMove2 Playstation Motion Controller Named: Playstation Move
Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment, just unveiled at GDC the official name for the PlayStation motion controller, the PlayStation Move. The Move is Sony's latest PlayStation 3 add-on that will introduce motion-controlled gaming to the "next-gen" system using a design very similar to the Nintendo Wii. The new system is broken down into three parts: the camera, wand and subcontroller.

You will have to purchase at least two of the products to get the motion-controlling experience, both of which will be bundled in a starter pack along with an unannounced game that will retail for under $100. You will also be able to purchase a PS3 system with the starter pack bundled together in the future (Price TBD.) The other part of the system, the wireless "subcontroller", will allow for more precise control and movement of on-screen characters by introducing an analog stick and a few more face buttons. However, this subcontroller will not come bundled in the starter pack, is not motion-sensitive.
