Sony Announces New Movie Studio Partnerships for PSN
by Justin B on Mar.09, 2010 at 3:47 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3
Today Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced that they have formed partnerships with several major movie studios in the United States. The studios announced include: 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.
With this new partnership Sony will be able to deliver high-definition movies through it’s PSN service, including such movies as Up, District 9, Zombieland, Inglorious Basterds, The Hangover, Harry Potter, The Wizard of Oz and more! There was no mention as to whether or not this content would be 720p or 1080p, but my guess is on 720p. You can check out a full list of some of the new titles that are available on the store today as a result of this partnership after the break.

[UPDATE] - Playstation Network: Outage for Phats
by Justin B on Feb.28, 2010 at 9:18 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable
Several users on our forums and over on the official Playstation forums are reporting that they are unable to access the Playstation Network, and thus unable to play some games (Error 8001050F). Some other users are also reporting that their trophies are corrupting for no good reason. Sony has acknowledged this problem and are actively looking into it, so now all we can do is wait.
The cause of this outage is not known but it is theorized that the cause has something to do with the date, almost like Y2K for PSN. So far reports have only been with the PS3 Phat models, Slim models seem to be unaffected. There's a large majority of users reporting failure while a select lucky few are still able to access PSN. A temporary fix can be found below:
- Go into System Settings and disable your internet connection
- Set your date to 3/1/2010 (March 1st, 2010)
- Reboot your system

UPDATE
Some new information that has cropped up by way of a new post over at the official PlayStation Blog site can be seen below. The best advice for people who are effected is to keep your unit turned off until a fix is hopefully rolled out within the next 24 hours:
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
- The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
- When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.- When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”- When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”- Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
So there you have it. We'll keep you posted as new information is made available on this story.

Naughty Bear, First Screenshots and Trailer Unveiled
by Abe Froeman on Jan.12, 2010 at 1:46 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

In a game world with increasingly violent and bloody video games arriving at store shelves on a monthly basis, developer Artificial Mind & Movement are keeping the violence and psychopathic tendencies in place, but replacing the blood and guts with stuffing and fabric. Set on the Island of Perfection, you will assume the role Naughty Bear, who will go about exacting revenge by tormenting, torturing, and slaying the stuffed inhabitants who got on his bad side and pushed him over the edge.
Featuring over-the-top cartoon violence, you'll go about unlocking a total of 28 levels on the island as you start your warpath. Ensuring replayability, the island will throw different obstacles, weather, challenges, and characters each time you fire up the game. There will even be several multiplayer modes available at launch which will allow you to measure up your violent tendencies with gamers around the world.
Naughty Bear is scheduled for a release some time in the second quarter of 2010 on the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade. Enjoy the first trailer and gallery below.

While Atlus U.S.A. continues to leave us in suspense over a Persona 3 Portable U.S. release date, they've decided to indulge PSP owners' RPG-appetites with the announcement of "Hexyz Force". This game was released in Japan back in November, and it seems Atlus U.S.A. has decided the time has come to release it stateside on the 25th May 2010. The game will be available on both UMD and PSN for the price of $29.99. Details on the game from the official forum thread follow after the jump.
Dark Void Demo Hitting PSN, XBLM This Week
by eXophase Mirror on Jan.05, 2010 at 1:50 pm, under Gaming, PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Capcom today sent word that a playable demo of its aerial sci-fi shooter Dark Void will hit the PlayStation Network this week on January 6. The same download will arrive on Xbox Live Marketplace a day later, January 7. Capcom says the demo will feature a mix of aerial dog-fighting, unique vertical cover action and on-foot combat. The company made no mention of a demo on the PC front, leaving us to assume that one will not be available, at least ahead of the game's retail release.
Dark Void hits Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on January 19.
Namco Bandai Aims to Expand Digital Presence in 2010
by eXophase Mirror on Dec.23, 2009 at 2:18 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360

With an onslaught of classics in the pipeline primed for re-release, Namco Bandai is preparing to ramp up its presence in the digital market next year. Namco says the initiative will give customers "access to hard-to-find gems and the latest best-selling content available at their fingertips" across the entire slate of portable and console platforms.
To offer a glimpse at what's up and coming, currently Beautiful Katamari is slated for a digital re-release in Q1 2010 on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Games on Demand service. PSP title Me & My Katamari was made available on PSN yesterday as a UMD legacy download. Expect to see a steady supply of PSOne Classics from Namco’s backcatalog hitting the PlayStation Store as we move into 2010 as well.

Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! 2 UMD Includes Predecessor
by eXophase Mirror on Dec.22, 2009 at 4:03 pm, under Gaming, PlayStation Portable

Unlike its PSN-exclusive predecessor, NIS America's dungeon-crawling puzzle title Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! 2: Time To Tighten Up Security is set to make a retail debut and it'll include a special bonus for those that missed out on the original. An Amazon listing reveals that NIS has managed to squeeze all the quirky escapades of Badman's first outing onto the 1.8GB UMD disc that houses Badman 2, effectively giving consumers two games for the price of one. Now that's a generous deal.
Badman 2 is set to hit PSN as well, though it's unclear if this same bonus will extend to the digital release. We are awaiting word from NIS on that, but as it stands, consider this a retail only incentive.

Mega Man 10 PSN, XBLA Bound
by eXophase Mirror on Dec.16, 2009 at 2:50 am, under Gaming, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

The latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed the unsurprising revelation that Capcom's retro-fitted Mega Man 10 is indeed a multiplatform title. Decked in 8-bit pixels, it's due out on both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade alongside the already announced WiiWare release. There's not much else to deduce from the scan, other than the fact Mega Man's brother Protoman will once again be making an appearance in this one.
Still no word on a date, but we'll keep you posted.
