playstation 2 Playstation Store Update: 2/11/10

Today's update can be summed up in one word - bundles. On the PS3 side, we got 4; two Burnout Paradise bundles, a Sonic Unleashed bundle, and a Valkyria Chronicles bundle. Regarding the PSP, Sony bundled the rather curious choices of Full Auto 2 and Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars, and also released a Sonic Rivals bundle. All of the bundles are priced pretty decently, ranging from $9.99 to $29.99.

Three PSX classics were also released; Dirt Jockey, Populous: The Beginning, and Sim Theme Park.

On the demo side, three new ones were released; Heavy Rain, echoshift, and Socom: Fire Team Bravo 3. Personally, I can't wait to try out the FTB3 one. Be sure to check out the full content of the update after the break!

PlayStation Store Update Thursday: Kicking It

playstation 2 PlayStation Store Update Thursday: Kicking It
Apart from the addition of a playable demo of Capcom's sci-fi shooter Dark Void and Matt Hazard: Blood Bath & Beyond, the first PlayStation Store update of 2010 is a rather uneventful affair. Sony is taking its sweet time to wake up from the long holiday and we can't blame 'em. On the DLC side of things, Borderlands The Underdome is now available, as is an extra character for PAIN. For those hunting around for deals,  Ubisoft-published titles Cellfactor Psychokinetic Wars, Prince of Persia Classic, TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled have been discounted to $5 each, down from the regular price of $9.

Thankfully, PSPgo owners were kept in the loop during this lull period as Pinball Heroes, Bomberman Land, and Dungeon Explorer have all been added to the growing collection of UMD Legacy offerings. While the selection of PSOne Classics remain stagnant for another week, there's no shortage of premium themes and wallpapers for customization junkies.

Hit the break for the full list of offerings.

cod411 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack Now $5 On PSN, XBLM This Week Only
In what we presume is a last ditch effort to move copies of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and associated downloadable content in preparation for the release of its follow-up, Activision has slashed the price on Infinity Ward’s Variety Map Pack, bringing it down to $4.99, a 50 percent reduction. That translates to 400 Microsoft Points on the 360 side of things. The pack was released last year as the final piece of DLC for CoD 4 and features four additional maps, namely Broadcast, Creek, Chinatown and Killhouse.

The reduced price is valid for this week only. To coincide with the sale, Acti is hosting a Double XP weekend from November 6-8 on PSN and XBL.

playstation 2 PlayStation Store Update Thursday: Trine
Headlining this week’s PlayStation Store is Frozenbyte’s enchanting fantasy-action puzzler Trine. Joing that is a couplet of PSOne classics, namely Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe’s Exodus. For those looking to test-drive some PSN titles, Ratchet And Clank Future: A Crack In Time, Critter Crunch, and Dragon Ball: Raging Blast are all available in demo form.

For the frugal deal hunters among us, Lumines Supernova has been permanently marked down to $9.99 while Burnout Paradise and Siren Halloween have received a temporary reduction down to $14.99 and $29.99 respectively.

With 18 newly added UMD legacy titles, portable offerings are also in surplus this week, which should put a grin on the faces of early PSPgo adopters. See the complete list past the break.

PSN Expands to Amazon

psn PSN Expands To Amazon
Online retailer Amazon has joined forces with Sony to offer select offerings from the PlayStation Store. Purchase a title through Amazon and you’ll be instantly sent a voucher code with which you can redeem on your platform of choice.

What’s the advantage of going through Amazon rather than using the PS store directly? One word: convenience. Alternatives are always welcome and it’s nice being able perform PSN transactions straight from your browser. We can only hope Amazon will begin to stock up on more titles in the near future. This initiative also opens up the possibility of gifting, as purchased voucher codes can be sent to another party after purchase.

In celebration of its newfound alliance, Amazon is offering incentives to pick up PS3 and PSP hardware for a limited time only. Those who pick up a PSP-3000 unit will receive a $15.99 credit towards any game in the PSN store, while PS3 Slim buyers will receive $9.99 in credit. A nice little bonus.
